Public Road Repair and Maintenance
Roads get an insane amount of traffic; constantly being exposed to both heavy and light vehicles and all of the elements. Because of this, the wear and tear on roads is exacerbated. Asphalt and concrete roads hold up incredibly well, but they need to be maintained or, under the traffic they get, they’ll begin to crack and fail. Because of this, sealing and resealing roads is not only a great option, its a necessity. This process should be done, at least, every three years and we have several options of sealant to choose from.
Asphalt Emulsion Sealing
Asphalt emulsion sealing is, now, the leading sealcoating option. Asphalt emulsion sealant is asphalt based and is known to be the eco-friendly version of your seal coating options. This type of sealant is very resilient to oxidation and holds up extremely well under pressure. The drawback to this type of sealant is that it stains easily from gas or oil spills. This type of sealant is best applied during warmer temperatures, for best setting options and should not be applied at night, as finicky night temperatures can impact the setting integrity.
Coal Tar Sealant
Coal tar sealant is still the king of sealants because of its ease of use and longevity. This sealant is weather resistant and provides a top layer that is dark, shiny and new looking. This type of sealant is made from baking coal and combining it with water to create a tar-base solution. This create a solution that is easy to lay and work with. The downside to coal tar sealant is that it’s messy, smells bad and, recent studies have shown that it may be detrimental to eco-systems. However, coal tar sealant is affordable and a great option for roads.
Fast Dry Sealant
Fast dry sealant is not meant to be used over long spans of roads. Because this sealant is created to dry and set, usually, in less than an hour, it is incredibly expensive. The beast use of this sealant is for emergency patching of cracks, splinters and small fissures. Fast dry sealant is typically only supplied to professional sealcoating companies, like ours, so if this is an option you think you need, please let us know. If the roads leading up to your driveway, parking lot or business are failing, we can apply fast dry sealant to make sure that an immediate fix is presented to you.
Acrylic sealant is a newer type of sealant that is, far and away, the best sealant on the market. Because this sealant is acrylic based, it is absolutely impervious to UV and elemental damage. Another great feature of this type of sealant is that it can by dyed in a number of colors, for aesthetic or practical purposes. This type of sealant is also incredibly environmentally friendly, because it contains no petroleum byproducts. The one drawback of this type of sealant is that it is very expensive, especially when used in mass quantities.
